Independents believe that in Local Government the concerns of the voters in a Ward should override the requirements of a Political Party.

Whatever ‘localism’ means, it is difficult to see how councillors of a political party, particularly a party in national government, can really give power to local people.

Last Post for Hertford Post Office?

It was announced on Monday January 26th that Hertford Post Office in Fore Street was to close as from January 27th. There was no reason given other than staff running the Post Office were facing eviction.

Goshawk flies into Hertford for Christmas dinner

A Goshawk was seen in Hertford on Boxing Day afternoon (December 26th 2013) in the Market Place entrance to Shire Hall.

A number of people out for an afternoon stroll watched as the goshawk pecked at his meal seemingly unconcerned at the stir he was causing.

Thanksgiving service for Cllr Radford

A thanksgiving service in tribute to Russell Radford, who died unexpectedly on October 17, will be at the town’s All Saints’ Church in Churchfields on Tuesday November 12 at 11am.

Russell, of Mandeville Road, Hertford, was a Conservative councillor for the Bengeo ward and served as Mayor of the town from 2007 to 2008.

Local Resident Produces Leaflet for People Running For Local Elections

A local resident has co-authored a free guide to help individuals running in the Local election make the most from their campaign budget.

Hertford resident Jim Thornton has written Elections on a Shoestring along with the leading environmental activist Tamsin Omond. The content of the guide was compiled from ideas sent in from around the country.

NXEA Train Services Adjusted due to Snow - UPDATE

The current spell of snowy weather has forced National Express East Anglia (NXEA) to introduce an amended train timetable today (Monday 20 December 2010) and tomorrow (Tuesday 21 December 2010). However, NXEA currently claim that Services between Hertford East and London will be unaffected tomorrow by the amended timetable.
